Men's Golf Opens Spring Slate at MAC Match Play

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips open the Spring 2012 campaign today in Dade City, Fla., when they take part in the 2012 Mid-American Conference Match Play event today and tomorrow at the Lake Jovita South Course.
The two-day event will consist of 54 holes of match play competition. The first two rounds will played Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. ET for the first round and continuous play for the second round. The third and final round will be Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The event is a match play event with a double elimination format.
The field includes most of the MAC, including Akron, Ball State (host), Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami University, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Toledo.
The Zips are coming off a successful Fall schedule under first-year head coach David Trainor. Akron finished in the top-10 in all five events, including a season-best second place finish at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Charlie Bull led the Zips with a 71.29 scoring average, the best mark in the MAC through the fall tournaments. Bull placed in the top-15 in all five events and carded 9-of-14 rounds at par or better.
