Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at the MAC Match Play Event

DADE CITY, Fla. – The Akron men's golf team opened the 2012 spring slate with a sixth-place finish at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Match Play on Tuesday at the Lake Jovita South Course.
After going 1-1 on day one of the event, the Zips, the No. 2 seed, faced off against No. 5 seed Toledo in the fifth-place match. Cameron Simmons and Tim Lew would post victories on the day while Harry Whittle would halve his match, but Akron would fall 3.5-2.5 to the Rockets.
Senior Ryan Mason, Simmons and Lew would lead the way for the Zips, going 2-1 for the event. Mason posted his two wins on day one, dropping his final match 2&1 on Tuesday. Simmons won his match 1 up while Lew posted a 4&3 win.
Senior Scott Landreth and freshman Miguel Meyer each finished the week 1-2. Landreth fell 4&3 on the final day while Miguel closed out his first event as a Zip with a 2&1 loss.
Whittle rounded out the squad going 0-2-1.
The Zips return to action on Feb. 20 when they travel to Mobile, Ala., for the USA Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.

Miguel Meyer (UA) vs. Mike Lancaster (UT) – Lancaster WINS 2 and 1
