Hughes and Kern Recognized on All-MAC Team by College Sports Madness

Complete College Sports Madness All-MAC Women's Soccer Teams
AKRON, Ohio – Two University of Akron women's soccer players, senior Ashley Hughes and junior Amber Kern, have been named first team All-Mid-American Conference as announced by College Sports Madness.
Hughes had one of the best statistical seasons in Akron women's soccer history as she led the team in goals (eight), assists (six), points (22) and shots (36). Her six assists set a single season school record and her 22 points tied Jeannie Stuckey's (2003) record for most points in a single season. In addition, Hughes' eight goals ranked tied for third for most goals in a season.
During the conference season, Hughes played her best soccer as she had six goals and four assists during MAC play. Hughes finished her career with 13 goals – good for fourth on Akron's career goals list. Her 33 career points (13g, 7a) also stands fourth on UA's all-time scoring list.
Kern started all 18 games in central defense or midfield and scored one goal, while adding two assists for four points. She scored her first career goal at Ohio (Oct. 5) and helped the defense to shutouts against Cleveland State (Sept. 7), Canisius (Sept. 9) and Bowling Green (Oct. 14), while also leading the team in minutes played with 1601. Through three years in the Blue and Gold, Kern has appeared in 55 matches, making 53 starts.
