Wolbert named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

AKRON, Ohio – After keeping a clean sheet against #31 Michigan in Friday's season-opening 1-0 victory, University of Akron senior goalkeeper Jeny Wolbert has been tabbed the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Wolbert totaled nine saves in Friday's contest – including six in the second half - at U-M Soccer Stadium in Ann Arbor to help the Zips extend their unbeaten streak in season-openers to 11 games (10-0-1). It was the 11th shutout of Wolbert's career.
"The shutout was really a team effort," said Wolbert. "The rest of the team played with a ton of energy in front of me and I was able to feed off that energy the whole match."
The Zips are back in action this Saturday when they head to Miami, Fla. to take on Florida International at 7:00 p.m.
