Women's Golf Places Four on Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of Akron women's golf team, lead by junior Hanna Ek, placed four student-athletics on the Academic All-MAC Team the league office announced on Tuesday.
The honor is the second Academic All-MAC honor for Ek, who earned Academic All-MAC in 2010 and was named to the 2010‐11 Capital One Academic All‐District® Women's At‐Large Second Team for District IV as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on May 20.
Joining Ek on the team were Amanda Butler, Tyler Etcheberry, and Katie Jenior, all earning Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention honors. The four student-athletes named Academic All-MAC are the most in the program's three-year history.
Ek (3.978 GPA, Mechanical Engineering) competed in nine of 11 events, posting a scoring average of 77.45, the second-best average on the squad. During the 2010-11 season, she posted one win, four top-10 and five top-25 finishes. She was named Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week on Oct. 21 after capturing the MAC Preview individual title (Oct. 18-19), the first win of her collegiate career.
Butler (3.697 GPA, Sports Management) competed in all 11 events, recording one top-10 and four top-25 finishes. She posted a season average of 80.00 over 28 rounds and recorded the first top-10 finish of her career. She tied for ninth (80-76-82 – 238) to help the Zips win the Third-Annual Zippy Invitational (Oct. 11-12), the first team title in program history.
Etcheberry (3.705 GPA, Corporate Financial Management) appeared in all 11 events, posting an average of 79.54 over 28 rounds, the third-best on the team. She tied her career-low round of 72 at the Lumberjack Shootout at Wigwam (March 15) while carding seven rounds of 76 or better and posting one top-10 five top-25 finishes.
Jenior (3.202 GPA, Sport and Exercise Science) appeared in eight of 11 events this season and finished fifth on the team with an 80.14 scoring average over 22 rounds. She posted two top-15 finishes this season.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
