Track Finishes Stong at Ashland Alumni Open

ASHLAND, Ohio - The University of Akron track and field team won four events and finished runner-up in four others at the Ashland Alumni Open this weekend on the campus of Ashland University.

Three event wins came from the men's side as Daryl Baptiste finished first in the long jump (24-00.75), Tyshaun Peoples did the same in the 110 hurdles (14.31) and KC LaCross followed suit in the 400 hurdles (52.02). Marissa Baranauskas crossed the line first in the women's 5000-meter run (18:11.17) while Valerie Wert was the top collegiate finisher in the hammer elite with a throw of 191-00.

Adding to the men's success, Mike McCall (6-08.75) and Jakob Leon (6-04.75) finished 2-3 in the men's high jump while Lorenzo Brazzell (22.26) and Peoples (22.42) went 2-3 in the men's 200-meter dash. It was also a big weekend for Bryan Jones, who finished second in both the long jump (23-02.50) and javelin (179-09).

The Zips will next host their final home meet of the year with the Campbell Wright Invitational next Friday at Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
