Bassitt Earns MAC East Pitcher of the Week Honors

AKRON, Ohio - Junior closer Chris Bassitt became the second University of Akron baseball player to earn weekly Mid-American Conference honors on Monday after being named the MAC East Pitcher of the Week.

Bassitt picked up two saves - his fifth and sixth of the year - in Akron's series at Eastern Michigan. Seven of his nine outs were strikeouts and he allowed just one hit. Bassitt struck out the side on just 13 pitches in Friday's 5-2 win and then picked up a six-out save in Akron's win on Saturday. The junior right-hander struck out four in the Saturday win. Bassitt has not allowed an earned run in nine outings, a streak that stretches across 13.1 innings.

The Zips face Malone on Tuesday at Thurman Munson Stadium in Canton at 6:00 p.m. before hosting Miami for a three-game set at Lee R. Jackson Baseball Field this weekend.
