- The University of Akron softball team swept both games on day two of the Rebel Spring Games, improving to 10-6 on the season and 4-0 at the tournament. The Zips downed Lafayette 7-2 and scraped by Manhattan 2-1.
In the first game, Akron notched 15 hits and held Lafayette scoreless until the seventh inning. Heather Bauer pitched 6.1 innings and gave up both runs before being relieved by Alissa Birkhimer, who recorded the final two outs. Bauer is now 5-2 on the season.
Alex Feltes led UA at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. With a team-high two RBI, Alex Helfrich went 2-for-4 and added a stolen base. Olivia Hegedus crushed the game's only home run, a solo shot for her fifth of the season.
