Rifle Outdoes RHIT, Falls at Ohio State

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron rifle team posted a 5421-4350 decision over visiting Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday at Schrank Hall South Marksmanship Training Facility. Then on Sunday, the Zips traveled to Ohio State and suffered 4626-4547 loss at Wylie Range.
Saturday was the Zips' last home contest of the season and served as Senior Day for Josh Fabijance, Rebecca Gerevics and Brittany Jones.
Against RHIT, Akron held the upper hand in both disciplines, out-shooting its opponent 2235-2120 in smallbore and 2286-2230 in air rifle. Ohio State topped Akron 2298-2249 in smallbore and 2328-2298 in air rifle.
UA's Sarah Benjamin finished first in air rifle, with a score of 579. RHIT's Adam Ross earned a second-place score of 574, following by 571 by UA's David Brummond and Zachary Szabo. Brummond won the smallbore competition, shooting a 570. He was paced by Adam Auclair's 565.
At OSU, Ryan Stein (564) led Akron in the smallbore. Auclair, Benjamin and Luke Nelson each posted a 562. Jones paced the Zips in air rifle, placing third with a 585. Szabo and Nelson scored a 578 and 576, respectively.
The Zips return to the Ohio State campus on Feb. 12 for the NCAA Qualifier.
