Hegedus Named MAC East Player of the Week
February 22 | Softball
- The University of Akron softball team claimed the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week honors for the second-straight week, as senior Olivia Hegedus won the award for her performance at the College of Charleston Cougar Classic Feb. 18-20. This is the first such honor of her career. Last week, seniors Alex Feltes and Heather Bauer were named MAC East Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Hegedus hit three home runs and a double on her way to driving in six runs and scoring five. For the weekend, she totaled seven hits and went .412 at the plate while helping the Zips go 3-2. In the win over Canisius (Feb. 19), Hegedus went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, a double, and a home run. She is currently riding a four-game hitting streak, is third on the team with three multi-hit performances, and is tied for a team-high three multi-RBI games.
Akron (6-4) will return to the field on March 4 in the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic in Woodstock, Ga.
