Ashbrook Named MAC Smallbore Shooter of the Month

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron's Rebekah Ashbrook was named Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Smallbore Shooter of the Month on Wednesday, the conference announced.
Ashbrook not only had a strong month - particularly in the prone position - on the range in two competitions, but also spearheaded the team's annual Turkey Shoot efforts. The Turkey Shoot is the program's primary fundraiser, and under Ashbrook's guidance it has garnered more success than ever before. The 2011 Turkey Shoot received an unprecedented amount of donations and provided the team with positive interaction and with both the University and Akron communities.
Ashbrook is also an excellent performer in the classroom, where she holds a 3.7 grade point average in her speech and language pathology program.
The Akron rifle team will next take to the range on Jan. 14 at national-title contender West Virginia. The Zips were ranked 18th in the most recent Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association national poll.
