Volleyball Falls at Kent State 3-1, Jarvis Gets 1000th Career Kill

KENT, Ohio – The University of Akron volleyball team gave up a 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-20, 25-22) road decision to Kent State in Mid-American Conference action on Friday night at M.A.C. Center.
With the victory, Kent State (11-19, 4-11 MAC) earned one half point in the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge and now leads the overall competition by a count of 2.5-1.5. The squads split this year's pair of regular-season meetings, with Akron (4-24, 1-14 MAC) claiming a 3-0 win on Oct. 8 at Rhodes Arena.
UA senior outside hitter Courtney Jarvis recorded her 1000th career kill during tonight's third set. She entered the contest needing six to reach that mark and finished with 12. She is the first Zip to accomplish the feat since Brionna Patterson did so in 2008.
Chelsea Harvey and Alex Cocklin each recorded 14 kills and Paiton Twitty 11 for UA. Morgan Kuhn finished with 51 assists for the Zips.
KSU's Maigan Larsen had a game-high 18 kills and Aleksandra Nowak posted 39 assists.
The teams split the opening two sets. Akron came from behind in the first to lead by as much as 20-16, but Kent State rallied to make it 22-all and then 23-all before posting the last two points en route to the 25-23 final margin. The second set was all Akron as the Zips did not trail and led by as many as 11 on the way to the 25-15 decision.
Kent State took the third set, 25-20. After trailing by as much as 18-11 the Zips cut it to 22-19, but the Flashes held off the late surge to take the 2-1 match lead.
Akron held to a slight margin in the early going of set four and neither team led by more than three throughout. The Zips tied it at 21 and again at 22, but the Flashes scored the last three points to claim match point.
Akron closes out its regular season at Ohio on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
