Men's Golf Ends Fall Season with Fifth-Place Finish

KETTERING, Ohio – The University of Akron men's golf team closed out the fall schedule with a fifth-place finish on Tuesday at the 2011 UD Fall Invitational at the par-71, 7,055-yard NCR South Course.
Led by sophomore Charlie Bull, the Zips fired a round of 10-over 294 to finish with a two-day score of 595 (+27). IUPUI defeated Dayton in a team playoff for the team title as both schools ended the day with identical scores of 17-over 585.
Bull closed out a remarkable fall season with his fifth top-12 finish in as many events. His round of 3-over 74 put him in a tie for fifth place (145, +3). Senior Scott Landreth climbed 20 spots while fellow senior Ryan Mason moved up ten spots to each finish in a tie for 13th place (148, +6). Landreth posted a round of even-par 71 while Mason carded a score of 72 (+1).
Freshman Harry Whittle equaled his round of 77 from Monday to finish in a tie for 37th place with a two-day tally of 154 (+12).
Junior Cameron Simmons ended the fall slate in a tie for 77th with a score of 164 (+22).
The Zips will take the winter off and will return to the links on Feb. 13 when they travel to Tampa, Fla., for the Mid-American Conference Match Play event.
