Rifle Finishes Second in Tri-Meet at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Akron rifle team battled Ohio State and Columbus State (Ga.) over the weekend, placing in a tie for second with CSU as Ohio State took the win.
The Zips and Columbus State both shot for a total score of 4569, falling behind the Buckeyes who won the meet with a 4622.
Sophomore Victoria Brown continued her excellent start to the season by taking second in the smallbore with a score of 573.
"I am very excited for Victoria," coach Newt Engle said. "I believe what we are seeing Victoria do is just the beginning of her capabilities."
Senior Sarah Benjamin was UA's top placer in the air rifle, winning a tie-breaker to take third with a 581. Ryan Stein was sixth with a score of 580.
"Our performance at this match has come at the right time for us as now we know what areas we need to strengthen to prepare for our next match." Engle said.
Akron is ranked 16th in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association national poll.
The Zips have a few weeks to prepare for their next competition – a Nov. 5, home showdown with The University of The Sciences (Pa.). The match begins at 9:00 a.m. at Schrank Hall.
