Cross Country to Compete at Penn State National Friday
October 13 | Cross Country
AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's and women's cross country teams will have one final tune-up for the conference championships when they head to the Penn State National Friday.
The men's team will run a 5.2-mile course starting at 10 a.m. while the women will compete in a 6k run starting at 11 a.m. A challenging lineup should provide solid competition for the Zips and aid in their preparation for the Mid-American Conference Championships, which will be hosted by Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., at the end of the month.
Headlining the women's field will be No. 19 West Virginia, along with the 20th-ranked Nittany Lions, and the Blue Devils of Duke, who come in ranked 26th overall. The Nittany Lion men, who have hovered just outside the national top 30 all season, will be among the favorites on the men's side, as well as Grand Valley State, which currently stands No. 3 in Division II.
The Akron men are coming off a third-place finish at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships, hosted by Cedarville University two weeks ago. The Zips were led once again by sophomore Brad Hough, who took third place individually in the 8k with a time of 25:09.62.
Freshman Morgan Willis was the top finisher for the women's team that day, placing 19th with a time of 18:38.48 in the 5k. In all, the women's team took sixth place among a challenging field.
