Men's Golf Tied for Fourth at Firestone Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's golf team is in a four-team group tied for fourth place after the second round of The Firestone Invitational at the par-72, 7,087-yard Firestone Country Club.
The Zips closed out day one with rounds of 291 (+3) and 285 (-3) to finish with an even-par score of 576. The four teams tied for fourth place are just four shots behind tournament leaders Indiana and SMU (572, -4). In all, seven teams enter the final round within four shots of the lead.
Sophomore Charlie Bull led the way for the Zips, posting rounds of 71 (-1) and 70 (-2) to finish tied for eighth place with a score of 3-under 141. He had one of the highlights of the day, recording his first-collegiate hole-in-one on the 178-yard eighth hole. The ace was his fifth all-time.
Junior Cameron Simmons enters the final round in a tie for tenth place at 2-under 142 thanks to rounds of 72 (E) and 70 (-2). Freshman Harry Whittle carded rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2) and is tied for 36th place with a two-round tally of 147 (+3).
Seniors Scott Landreth and Ryan Mason are tied for 41st place with day one totals of 148 (+4). Landreth posted scores of 76 (+4) and 72 (E) while Mason carded scores of 3-over 75 and 1-over 73.
Junior Tim Lew and senior Kevin Pikus, both playing as individuals, are in a tie for 67th and in 87th respectively. Lew recorded rounds of 72 (E) and 80 (+8) to finish with a score of 152 (+8) while Pikus had rounds of 74 (+2) and 83 (+11) for a tally of 157 (+13).
The Zips will look for the win tomorrow, with tee times set to begin at 8:30 a.m. ET on the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. Fans can follow all the action live online via Golfstat Live Scoring.
