Men's Golf in Third Place at D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate

NORMAL, Ill. – The University of Akron men's golf team closed out day one of the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in third place (595, +27) at the Weibring Golf Club on Saturday.
The Zips are just two shots behind second-place Southern Illinois (593, +25) thanks to rounds of 12-over 296 and 15-over 299. No. 48 Illinois enters the round with a commanding 23-shot lead over the rest of the field (570, +2).
Sophomore Charlie Bull continued to lead the Zips during the fall season, posting rounds of 2-under 69 and 5-over 76 to close out the day tied for fifth place with a total score of 145 (+3). He has now carded four-of-eight rounds at par or better this season.
Junior Cameron Simmons concluded the second round inside the top 10, firing rounds of 3-over 74 and 2-over 73 to finish tied for 10th with a score of 147 (+5). Senior Ryan Mason and freshman Harry Whittle are tied for 29th place thanks to scores of 10-over 152. Mason posted back-to-back rounds of 76 (+5) while Whittle carded scores of 77 (+6) and 75 (+4).
Senior Scott Landreth closed out the scoring-five tied for 37th place (153, +11) following rounds of 78 (+7) and 75 (+4).
