Ek Named to Academic All-MAC Women's Golf Team

AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron sophomore Hanna
Ek was one of nine players named to the Academic
All-Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Team as announced by the
league office Tuesday afternoon.
Ek, who owns a 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a mechanical
engineering major at UA, is the first player to receive academic
honors from the MAC in the two-year history of the women's golf
program.
Ek, a native of Falun, Sweden, competed in 10 of 11 events last
year, finishing with a 78.8 scoring average over 29 rounds. In all,
she recorded four top-20 finishes, including one top-10 designation
when she placed third out of 53 golfers at the Canes and Cardinals
Classic (Apr. 5-6). Fueled by a career best, opening round score
70, Ek carded 225 strokes (70-82-73) to help lead the Zips to a
third-place finish out of 10 teams.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has
excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete
must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in
at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
First-year students and junior college transfers in their first
year of residence are not eligible for the award.
