Blue Team Evens Fall World Series With Extra Inning Win
October 06 | Baseball
AKRON, Ohio - Scott Saylor poked a single to
right center in the top of the eighth inning, driving in Drew
Turocy for the go-ahead run and the Blue team held on to down the
Gold team 3-2 in game two of the Blue and Gold Fall World Series
Wednesday afternoon at Lee Jackson Field. The series is now knotted
at one game a piece with game three coming up Thursday afternoon at
2:15 p.m. back at Lee Jackson Field.
Both of game two's starters, Scott Foster for the Gold team and
Zach Yike for the Blue team, pitched well, allowing just one run
each. Yike pitched five innings, while Foster went six, before
handing the ball off to the respective bullpens.
Drew Turocy and Joey Havrilak tallied two hits each for the Blue team, with Matt Corpora driving in a pair, one on a double in the fifth and the second on a sac-fly in the seventh.
Mike Dehnke and Ivory Alexander had multi-hit efforts in defeat for the Gold team. Alexander drove in one with a two-out double in the fourth and Jared Turocy forced the game into extra-innings with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Kevin Kumasec picked up the win on the mound, pitching a perfect bottom of the eighth. Andrew Fanning, Dan Fawcett and Daniel Becks all made relief appearances.
The Fall World Series continues Thursday at 2:15 p.m. at Lee Jackson Field. Game Four is scheduled for Friday at 2:15 p.m. and game five, if necessary, will take place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
