Women's Soccer Dropped by Miami in MAC Quarterfinal

The University of Akron women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by Miami Sunday afternoon in Mid-American Conference quarterfinal action.
The loss ends the Zips season with a record of 7-11-1 MAC play. Miami advances to the semifinals with a record 13-6-2.
Extended possession by Akron led to a pair of early chances. Leigh Cullen's blast from just inside the penalty area sailed a foot wide, and Jordan Baranowski's strike from 22 yards was saved by Miami's Madison Ryan.
Miami got the opening goal when Sarah Dressfelt's balst from just outside the box sneaked inside Michelle Smith's far post on the 28-minute mark.
Smith made a pair of key saves in the 52nd minute, stopping a Julie Thompson attempt at the near post and saving a header on the ensuing corner kick.
Miami's Sara Lund placed the RedHawks two goals ahead in the 58th minute, beating Smith one on one.
UA created a pair of chances in the games final twenty minutes. Jordan Clark connected with a cross from Leigh Cullen in the 73rd minute, but her volley sailed over the crossbar. Just three minutes later, Baranowski was able to turn with ball and fire shot from 17 yards, Ryan was there for the save however.
Smith made nine saves in the match, while Clark fired three shots in the contest.
