Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at Cardlinal Cup

- The University of Akron women's golf team carded 303 strokes
Tuesday for a three-round score of 915 and a seventh place finish
at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of
Louisville.
It was a strong showing for the Zips, who turned in their best
round of the tournament, as all five team members shot in the
70's.
"The conditions were tougher today due to the wind and the drier
and faster conditions," said UA head coach Jenny King. "But we
handled ourselves well despite that. I'm proud of our finish and
our steady play and this should be provide momentum heading into
our tournament at Cincinnati next week."
UA sophomore Kristen Hill led the way,
carding 74 strokes Tuesday (76-75-74=225) for a share of 15th
place, individually. Hill notched a pair of birdies on the day
while making par 12 times. Katie Jenior also had a
strong showing, carding 75 strokes (75-76-75=226) for a share of
18th place. The sophomore matched Hill with two birdies while
making par 11 times.
Amanda Butler
(79-76-77=232), who competed as an individual, and Tyler
Etcheberry (81-75-76=232) each shared 32nd place while Hanna
Ek (77-78-79=234) and Alli Weaver
(80-79-78=237) placed 40th and 47th, respectively.
The host Louisville Cardinals improved on their lead Tuesday to win
the tournament, shooting 291 strokes as a team. Louisville's 866
strokes for the event was 3-over-par and 14 strokes ahead of
second-place Kentucky (303-290-305=898). Maryland
(303-290-306=899), Missouri (295-304-301=900) and Illinois St.
(298-297-309=904) rounded out the top five.
The Zips will next compete at the Cincinnati Fall Invitational next
week at the Elks Runs Country Club in Batavia, Ohio.
