Akron Women?s Track Gets Academic Honors

AKRON - The University of Akron women's track and field team, as well as eight individuals, were honored for outstanding academic accomplishments by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Zips carry a 3.224 cumulative team grade point average, placing them on the 2009 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Teams. In all, 131 programs own a cumulative GPA above 3.0, including seven programs from the Mid-American Conference.
Individually, Larisa Arcip, Alina Bocicor, Carrie Kayes, Allison Lawyer, Katherine Lee, Cassie Schenck, Valerie Wert and Lauren Whitehill were named to the USTFCCCA 2009 Division I All-Academic Track and Field team, placing Akron among the nation's top 10 with the eight honorees. A record total of 531 student-athletes representing 147 Division I institutions composed the women's 2009 All-Academic team.
Akron's women's program won both the MAC Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the fourth consecutive season. The Zips featured NCAA hammer champion and weight throw runner-up Stevi Large and Kayes, an All-American pole vaulter.
