Women's Golf Sits 12th After Day One of Canes and Cardinal Classic

The University of Akron women's golf team fired a two-round
score of 640 strokes after the first day of the Canes and Cardinal
Classic in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Zips (313-317) enter Tuesday's final round in 12th place among
the talented field but are just 10 strokes back of eighth place.
San Jose State (293-298=591) emerged as the leader in day one
followed by Washington State (298-305=603) and Texas State
(297-308=605) on an extremely windy and hot afternoon.
Freshmen Kristen Hill (78-76=154) and Hanna Ek
(77-77=154) continued their strong spring seasons, finishing the
day tied for 26th place individually. Amanda
Butler (79-81=160) followed in a tie for 47th place while Tyler
Etcheberry (79-83=162) wrapped up Monday's action in a tie for
51st. Senior Tammy Schumacher (81-90=171) rounded out the
Zips' lineup card in 61st place.
San Jose State's Erica Moston (71-73) led the pack with 144 strokes
in day one while teammate Katrin Delen Briones (73-73) and
Princeton's Susannah Aboff (73-73) enter Tuesday's play tied for
second individually.
The Zips will look to make up ground in the final round starting at
8 a.m.
