Volleyball Announces 2009 Summer Camps
February 25 | Women's Volleyball
The University of Akron volleyball head coach Ron
Arenz recently announced that the Zips will host two summer
camps in 2009, including a individual skills camp and high school
team tournament.
"This summer will mark the return of volleyball camps offered
on-campus at The University of Akron," said second-year head coach
Arenz. "Our goal is to provide a fun and enriched summer camp
experience for volleyball players of ALL levels while showcasing
our great campus and athletic facilities."
The individual skills camp will provide opportunities for players
at all levels to improve their fundamental skills. Campers will
work on all aspects of the game including passing, serving,
setting, attacking and blocking through fast paced drills and game
like situations.
The high school tournament is designed for teams to grow and
improve through match experience and provides opportunities to
increase overall skill level and team unity. Each team will be
assigned an Akron volleyball camp staff member who will assist the
team for the duration of the camp. Following sessions devoted to
skill instruction, teams will use what they have learned through
competition.
"In our team camp, we want to provide high school coaches an
opportunity for their teams to get extra contacts and competition
as well as provide additional perspectives that will help them in
the upcoming season," said Arenz.
The individual skills camp will be held July 20-22 with
registration due on July 10, and the team tournament will be held
July 24-25 with registration due on July 14. For further
information such as times, costs and how to register please see
attached brochure or call Aline dos
Santos at (330) 972-7435.
The Zips will open their 2009 season August 28, in Terre Haute,
Ind. at the Best Western Sycamore Classic. Akron will face
SIU-Edwardsville, Indiana State, UM-Kansas City and North
Dakota.
