Softball Announces Preseason Skills Camp

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron softball
team recently announced a preseason skills camp for ages eight and
up set for Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 inside the Stile Athletic Field
house.
Broken up into four sessions in two time frames, the first, set for
2:30-4:30 p.m. will focus on hitting and show batters power hitting
fundamentals and drills to increase batting average. Time will also
be spent learning fundamentals for bunting and slapping and the
intricacies of base running will be covered, including technique
and philosophy.
The second portion of the day is scheduled for 5:00-7:00 p.m. and
will be broken up into three sections focusing on advanced
pitching, beginning pitching and fielding skills.
Decided by skill level, during the advanced session pitchers will learn advanced pitching mechanics for the curve, drop, rise, screw ball and change up along with advanced workout suggestions while in the beginning session pitchers will learn basic pitching fundamentals and mechanics. For both sessions, all pitchers need to bring their own catcher.
In the fielding skills section the session will be divided between infielders and outfielders and then by position. Participants will learn fielding techniques for all positions including catching along with throwing, fielding, footwork, positional skill work, teamwork and communication.
If registered by Jan. 18 the cost for one session is $45.00 and two sessions is $85.00. If registered after Jan. 18, one session is $55.00 while both are $95.00.
Athletes should note that they need to come prepared with their own equipment and clean tennis shoes must be worn inside Stile Athletic Field House.
