Women's Golf Readies for Zippy Invitational
September 27 | Women's Golf
A total of 12 teams, including six Mid-American Conference
schools, will compete over two days at the inaugural Zippy
Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Rosemont Country Club in
Fairlawn, Ohio.
Joining the University of Akron women's golf team in its first ever
home event are MAC members Ball State, Toledo, Ohio, Eastern
Michigan and Bowling Green. Also competing in the 54-hole event
will be Cleveland State, Youngstown State, Western Kentucky, Robert
Morris, Evansville and Oakland.
The Zips, who are three weeks into their first season as a program,
have fared well this fall with a ninth-place finish in a field of
22 teams at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate in North Carolina in
the season opener and a second place finish in a field of 13 at the
Cardinal Classic last week in Muncie, Ind.
As a team, UA carded 600 (305-295) strokes and 601 (305-296)
strokes in their first two 36-hole events, respectively.
Individually, UA has been led by true freshman Kristen
Hill, who claimed her first collegiate win last week after just
missing the top 10 in week one. She and teammate Katie
Jenior have been in the 70s in each round this season with Hill
posting a season-low one-under par-71 in the first round at the
Great Smokies Intercollegiate.
The Zippy Invitational gets underway with 36 holes Monday starting
at 8:30 a.m. and concludes with 18 holes Tuesday at 9 a.m. All
three rounds will be shotgun starts.
