Baseball's Davidson Named to All-MAC First Team
May 21 | Baseball
For the second straight year, University of Akron senior Kurt
Davidson was named to the Mid-American Conference First Team
and was one of just two unanimous selections in a league-wide vote
of coaches, the MAC announced Wednesday.
The league's 12 head coaches conducted the voting for the 15-member
first and 15-member second All-MAC teams.
Davidson, who also was a second team honoree as a sophomore, leaves
the Zips program as one of the most prolific hitters ever to put on
an Akron uniform. During his four-year career, the catcher from
North Canton set school career records for at-bats (807), home runs
(41), RBI (180) and total bases (430) while finishing second with
253 hits and third with 52 doubles. Davidson also has the
distinction of starting every game of his prestigious college
career.
Davidson, who helped lead the Zips to their first winning season in
11 years this spring, batted .322 in 49 games while pacing the club
with 17 doubles, 12 homers and 45 RBI. His slugging percentage of
.588 and on-base percentage of .424 also led the Zips.
Also announced Wednesday were the league's specialty award winners.
Kent State's Greg Rohan was selected as the MAC's Player of the
Year and teammate Chris Carpenter was tabbed Pitcher of the Year
while Eastern Michigan's Jake Boss was named Coach of the Year and
Western Michigan pitcher Brian Stroud earned Freshman of the Year
honors.
