Kurt Davidson returns for his third season with the UA coaching staff and second as a full-time assistant following a promotion in the fall of 2009. Davidson, a four-year letterwinner for the Zips from 2005-08 brings a wealth of experience and unprecedented knowledge as one of the most gifted and decorated hitters in Akron history. His primary duties will focus on instructing the hitters and catchers while assisting head coach Bangtson with travel coordination. Davidson will also assist with recruiting duties while serving as the team's camp coordinator.
In 2010, Davidson helped coach an Akron team that collected more hits than any other team in program history. The 629 base knocks totaled by the 2010 team destroyed the previous mark of 574 set by the 2009 team that Davidson also helped mentor. The 2010 club also broke the program record for doubles.
Davidson also coached sophomore Drew Turocy to one of the best individual hitting seasons in school history. Turocy broke the 12-year old single season mark for hits with 95.
Davidson was a second team All-Mideast Region honoree in 2007 and holds the lone distinction of being a three-time All-Mid-American Conference honoree for the Zips. Davidson was named to the second team as a sophomore before receiving first team nods in his junior and senior campaigns. Additionally, Davidson was also a three-time Most Valuable Player selection for the Zips during his career and is the lone Zip in program history to earn the prestige award three years in his career and received the prestigious Joe Thomas Award bestowed upon the player with the highest batting average in a season in his sophomore campaign after posting a .338 clip.
Davidson finished his career at Akron as the leader in several statistical categories, including home runs (41), RBIs (180), at bats (807) and total bases (430). Additionally, Davidson is second in career hits at Akron (253) and third in career doubles (52). The power-hitter remains tied for second on the all-time single season list for 12 home runs in a season, a feat he managed to accomplish twice in his career as both a sophomore and senior and is fourth on the single season putouts list with 410 in his freshman campaign.
Davidson graduated from the University of Akron in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications. He currently resides in North Canton, Ohio.
