Akron Defeated by Pittsburgh 8-5

Roanoke, Va-The University of Akron softball team fell 8-5 to the Pittsburgh Panthers Sunday afternoon in the fifth and final game of the Days Inn Invitational hosted by James Madison University.
After defeating Pittsburgh 6-5 in the first game of the tournament, their offense was too strong for UA as they scored runs early proving to be too much for the Zips. Quickly, the Panthers scored four runs in the first, added two in the second, one in the fourth and the last in the sixth inning.
UA scored two runs in the third, added one in the sixth and were on their way to a comeback scoring two in the bottom of the seventh getting started when junior Amber Lowe drew a walk. Junior Lisa McLean stepped up to the plate hitting a triple to center field driving Lowe home. McLean scored the Zips' final run of the weekend on an error by the Panthers second baseman. Senior Christina Swierz got the loss for Akron.
Akron will resume tournament play on Wednesday when they head to Orlando, Fla. for the Rebel Spring Games.
