Trio of Runners Named to Academic All-MAC Team

The Mid-American Conference announced its 2008 Men's and
Women's Cross Country Academic All-MAC teams this afternoon, as
voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. Of
the 18 athletes named to the women's Academic All-MAC Team, the
conference honored three Zips while four others garnered Academic
Honorable Mention.
Junior Larisa Arcip, who recently paced the Zips with a
20th place finish at the NCAA Regional event, was honored as an
Academic All-MAC selection boasting 3.31 GPA in Psychology at
Akron.
Sophomore Kim Lorentz, who majors in Biology also made the
Academic All-MAC team sporting the highest overall GPA on the list
with 3.93. Lorentz was a solid performer for the Zips throughout
the season, finishing the year with a 26th place finish in the NCAA
Regional which saw 227 runners compete.
Rounding out the trio of honorees is sophomore Cassie
Schenck. Schenck, a Business major at Akron, posted a 3.61 GPA
to earn a spot on the Academic All-MAC squad. Schenck also finished
among the top-fifty runners at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional,
ending the season with a 46th place finish at the event.
Garnering Academic Honorable Mention for the men's squad was
senior, Mike Baraona. Seniors Olivia
Jaworek, Carol Eckerly and sophomore Ro Rupe
earned a similar distinction for the women.
The Zips wrapped up the Fall season with an 8th place finish at the
Great Lakes NCAA Regionals. Akron returns to the action in January
with the start of the indoor track and field season.
