Dimitrijevs Named to All-MAC Freshmen Team

AKRON, Ohio-Representing the Akron volleyball
team on an All-Mid-American Conference team for the first time
since 2003 is freshman Tina Dimitrijevs, who posted a stellar 2008
season for the Zips.
As voted upon by the league coaches, Dimitrijevs (Broadview Heights, Ohio/North Royalton), was named to the 2008 All-MAC Freshmen team and is just the first Zips freshman to be honored since Sandy Lewis in 2000.
"It is a great achievement for Tina to be recognized by the
coaches in this league and is a reflection of how much she has
developed in the past several months," said head coach Ron
Arenz.
Starting the year off strong, Dimitrijevs posted a season-high
seven block assists in the first match of the year against Northern
Arizona (8/30). Offensively, she put up a season-high 17 kills in
the Zips first match-up against cross-town rival, Kent State
(9/27).
An outstanding athlete, Dimitrijevs, finished her inaugural campaign playing in 97 of the 100 sets this season and finished third for UA in blocks posting 0.69 (B/S). On the year she tallied 197 kills, which was third for the Zips, 70 blocks, including 18 solo, and 23 digs.
