November 14 | Women's Golf
The University of Akron women's golf program has signed
Alli Weaver to a national letter of intent to play
for the Zips in 2009-10, head coach Jenny
King announced Friday.
"Alli is the total package," King said. "She's a good student,
comes from a great family and shows a lot of drive on the golf
course. I'm very pleased that she decided to continue her golfing
career at Akron and I know she will make an immediate impact on our
team."
Weaver, who hails from Lititz, Pa., became the first female
district champion in the history of the Warwick High School program
last fall while competing on the boys team all four years.
Furthermore, she placed seventh at the regionals (77) and 11th at
the state tournament (75, 84) in the fall while posting a 77.8
stroke average.
For her career, she has made four district tournament appearances
and has qualified for the state tournament three times. Weaver is a
two-time Warwick High School player of the year and has more than
10 tournament championships under her belt, including three
straight Lancaster County Junior and back-to-back Lancaster-Lebanon
League titles.
Weaver is also a three-time high honor roll student, competes on
the varsity track team and is the granddaughter of former Major
League pitcher Jim Weaver, who played for the California Angels in
the late 1960's.
