Women?s Soccer Comes Home To Face Cleveland St.
September 13 | Women's Soccer
The University of Akron women's soccer team plays host to
Cleveland State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. EDT at Lee Jackson Field, in
what is its lone home contest in a six-match stretch.
The Zips (3-0-1) ride a modest two-match win streak into the
weekend, following road victories at St. Bonaventure and Canisius
last Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Zips topped the Bonnies
2-1 in overtime, and scored one early goal against the Griffs to
overtake them 1-0 and earn their first shutout of the young
season.
UA sophomore Britni Back (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted
HS) has provided many of the highlights thus far this season for
the Zips, and she leads the group in scoring with nine points
(three goals, three assists). Back figured into the mix on all
three UA scores last weekend, being credited with the game-winning
goal at Canisius, and notching a goal and assist at St.
Bonaventure.
Senior goalkeeper Krystin Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) anchors
the UA defense, and maintains a 0.69 goals-against average in 389
minutes of work thus far this season. She owns a 3-0-1 record this
season and earned the 12th shutout of her career on Sunday at
Canisius.
Cleveland State will look to improve on its 2-3-0 record following
a 3-1 win at Delaware State on Sunday and an 8-1 loss at Temple
last Friday. Akron is 2-0-0 all-time versus CSU, as the teams have
met in each of the last two seasons. The Zips posted a 1-0 victory
last season in Cleveland (Sept. 15, 2006).
Following Friday's game with the Vikings, the Zips will travel to
Eastern Kentucky for a 1 p.m. match-up on Sunday. EKU enters the
weekend 1-2-2, and faces Radford on Friday. UA's road schedule
continues with trips to Northern Colorado (Sept. 21) and Wyoming
(Sept. 23).
