Lee Jackson Field to Be Renovated
August 06 | Baseball
Keeping in line with the trend of campus renovations at the
University of Akron, the Zips baseball program announced Monday the
undertaking of a dramatic upgrade to Lee Jackson Field.
The project, which will begin immediately, will feature a complete
re-grading of the infield area as well as the installation of a new
irrigation system.
"We're very excited to announce the field improvements to Lee
Jackson Field," said UA head coach Pat
Bangtson. "These upgrades will make our home field one of the
premier playing surfaces in the Midwest region. Both our players
and alumni can be very proud of the improvements we are undertaking
at Lee Jackson Field."
Lee Jackson Field has been the home to Zips baseball since its
completion in 1967. Since that time, Akron has compiled a 434-323-4
(.570) mark on its home field.
The 2007 Zips baseball team posted an overall record of 23-24,
marking an eight-game improvement over the previous campaign, under
Bangtson, who enters his third season at the helm. Catcher Kurt
Davidson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and first baseman Doug
McNulty (Homer City, Pa./Homer-Center) were each named to the
All-Mid-American Conference team last spring and will headline a
strong core of returnees in 2008.
