Zips End Regular Season With 4-0 Loss at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. - - Eastern Michigan (26-26, 14-8 MAC) tallied eight hits with two-run second and fourth innings to post a 4-0 victory over Akron (26-23, 13-9 MAC) Sunday afternoon in the regular-season finale at Varsity Field in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Julie Boyes (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake) took the loss for Akron, allowing eight hits and four runs in six innings of work, dropping to 12-8 on the season.
Eastern Michigan opened a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Lindsay Schmid took Boyes' offering over the left field fence for her fourth home run of the season. The Eagles added a second run in the frame with three-straight hits, including a double by Lindsay Ritz.
Jamie Stanclift (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) had a one-out double for the Zips in the top of the fourth but was left stranded as the next two batters popped up to the pitcher.
Two more runs scored for EMU in the bottom of the fourth with Lauren Clark's bases-loaded single scoring Ritz and Ashley Strauss. Just one play before the Zips had a chance to get out of the inning, but Clark stayed alive with a dropped foul ball.
Akron opens play in the Mid-American Conference Tournament on
Wednesday. The No. 6 seed Zips will face No. 3 Bowling Green in the
first game of the day at 11 a.m. Akron is making its first
appearance in the league tournament since the 2002 season when it
advanced to the championship game.
