YPSILANTI, Mich. - - Eastern Michigan (25-26, 13-8 MAC) came up with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings for a 2-1 win over Akron (26-22, 13-8 MAC) Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Deanna McCauley (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) led off the third with a double, and Jaclyn Spirtos (Medina, Ohio/Highland) moved pinch runner Jennifer Stottlemyer (Mesquite, Texas/Poteet) to third with a sacrifice bunt. Sara Zilles (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) brought her home with a double off the left field fence.
McCauley was 2-for-2 in the game, while Zilles was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
The Eagles tied things up in the fourth as Kelly Gulliver hit a perfectly-placed infield single and scored on a hit by Lauren Clark. It was 2-1 EMU on Heather Han's RBI single to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Akron had a chance in the seventh when pinch hitter Katrina Moffett (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) led things off with a walk, but McCauley was called out on a sacrifice bunt, and Aimee Woodrum came on in relief to strike out the last two Akron batters for the save.
Akron wraps up the regular season tomorrow with a single game
against Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. The Zips open Mid-American
Conference play on May 10 in Midland, Mich. against an opponent yet
to be determined.
