Zips Fall in Four Games To Bowling Green

Akron, Ohio - The University of Akron (7-10 overall, 2-3 MAC) volleyball team dropped its second home-match of the season and first Mid-American Conference contest of the year to Bowling Green State University (8-8, 2-3) on Friday night at the Rhodes Arena. BGSU won game one 30-27, but the Zips were able to take an exciting game two, 41-39. However, they were unable to gain the momentum as the Falcons rattled off game three (30-19) and four (30-26) for the win.
Sophomore Jennifer Stewart (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) recorded a match-high 23 kills and chipped in 19 digs in the loss. Junior Kim Horn (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson) had a match-high 28 digs. Sophomore Molly Rutledge (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and senior Mara Capraruolo (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) each had double-digit kills, with 19 and 11 respectively.
Freshman Abby Varterasian (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) had a career-high and a match-high 50 assists as she became the primary setter after senior Rachael Rush (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) was forced from the game with a leg injury.
BGSU had four players in double-digit kills, with Emily Manser
leading the way with 18. Ashlei Nofzinger had 16 kills, Stephanie
Swiger had 12 kills and Meghan Mohr had 10 kills.

The Zips return to action Saturday night when they host Miami University at 7:00 p.m. in Rhodes Arena.
