RedHawks Jump On Zips Early, Cruise To 18-8 Win

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami RedHawks plated nine runs in the first inning and cruised to an 18-8 Mid-American Conference baseball win over Akron Friday afternoon.

Miami upped its record to 26-21, 11-10 in MAC play. The Zips fell to 12-30, 6-14 in the MAC.

UA senior lefty Steve Bowers started, but did not last the first inning, yielding nine earned runs on seven hits and three bases on balls.

Zip senior shortstop Clarke White, who saw his 17-game hitting streak end Wednesday at Jacobs Field, laced four hits, including a double, against Miami pitching. Center fielder Ty Moorhead added three hits and first baseman Jim Gemler two for an Akron attack which produced 14 safeties. Miami pounded 19 hits.

The Zips and RedHawks meet again tomorrow for a 1 o'clock twinbill.
