Mountaineers Squeak Past Zips, 6-5

Morgantown, W. Va. — The West Virginia Mountaineers (19-19) nipped Akron, 6-5, in Game #1 of a scheduled doubleheader Tuesday evening.

The nightcap was stopped because of snow with one out in the top of the fifth inning and Akron leading 6-5. The second game did not go the required five innings and is not official. Both teams waited one hour to resume play before the contest was ended. This was a makeup twinbill from March 6.

Senior rightfielder Ty Moorhead led the way with three hits, while Jim Gemler, Clarke White and Steve Bowers each had two hits to pace the Zips (6-22).

Akron will entertain College of Wooster (24-6) Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Lee Jackson Field.
