Rockets Rally Past Baseball Zips
March 25 | Baseball
Toledo -- The Toledo Rockets rallied from a 6-0 deficit and clubbed the Akron Zips 19-7 in a Mid-American Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon.
UT advanced to 11-9 overall, 2-0 in the MAC. The Zips dropped their seventh in a row and fell to 3-10, 0-2.
Akron plated six runs in the top of the first. Senior shortstop Clarke White delivered a two-run double and junior outfielder Lou Pederi added a two-run single as the Zips took charge early.
But Toledo capitalized on an error and a rundown miscue to score eight runs in the bottom of the fourth and assume an 8-6 edge. The Rockets put up another eight spot in the sixth inning.
Zip senior center fielder Steve Bowers went 2-for-4 at plate with one run scored. Freshman RHP Tony Samad worked into the sixth inning and took the loss after being roughed up for 14 runs, only five of which were earned.
The Zips' home opener is Wednesday against Cleveland State at Lee Jackson Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 o'clock.
