Ray Greene played football at The University of Akron when they went both ways. The Akron native, who played his prep football at South High, earned four varsity letters as an offensive and defensive end. On the offensive side, he caught 16 passes for 164 yards in his career, but it was his defense that earned him the most honors. Greene earned All-Conference honors two years (1960-61) and was named Little All-American in 1961. In his senior campaign, Greene served as the defensive captain and was awarded the Fred Sefton Outstanding Defensive Performance Award. While at UA Greene was president of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, a member of the debate team, Kappa Delta Pi (speech honorary), bachelorās degree in speech and English and has a masterās degree in administration and supervision from The University of Miami (Fla.) (1968). Greene coached at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. His greatest success came while head coach at Alabama A&M. His teams won three consecutive conference titles (1979, ā80, ā81) and finished as runner-up in 1982 and 1983. His 1979 team appeared in the NCAA II playoff semifinals and in that same year Greene was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conferenceās Coach of the Year. Green served as an administrative assistant and quarterback-receiver coach at Jackson State University and resides in Jackson, Mississippi.
