Randy Ecrement

Pitcher Randy Ecrement became the first Akron baseball player to ever earn first-team All-MAC honors which he achieved as a senior in 1994.
His best year was 1992 when he went 9-1 while helping the Zips capture the all-time record of 42 wins out of 60 games, and UA captured the Mid-Continent Conference title. The nine wins matched the all-time season record set by Hall of Famer Mike Birkbeck.
A four-year letterwinner, Ecrement was voted UA’s Most Valuable Pitcher in both 1992 and 1994. His 19 career wins ranked him fourth on UA’s all-time list. His career 222 innings pitched ranked him third on the all-time list in 1994. He was a 2011 inductee into the Stark County Sports Hall of Fame, a 2014 inductee in the National Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame, and a 2014 inductee into the St. Thomas Aquinas Hall of Fame.
After college, Ecrement played amateur baseball for many years around the Canton-Akron area. He was a part of two amateur World Series titles while playing for the Akron A’s.
A self-employed insurance broker, Ecrement has worked in the life and health insurance industry since 1997. Additionally, he the director of pitching at Jackson High School. He has also coached at Lake High School and his alma mater St. Thomas High School. During his tenure at Jackson, the team won the Division I state championship in 2014.
In 2015 Ecrement began coaching his son’s teams. He is currently the coach of Jackson’s Purple Travel 12U team. He has been an instructor for numerous camps, including the Cleveland Indians youth camps.
A native of Stark Country, Ecrement earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1995.
"Playing baseball at the University of Akron has put a stamp on pretty much all phases of my life professionally and personally. I take my memories from there with me everywhere I go! A lot of my relationships are those I created while at the university."
