He only spent two years as an athlete on campus, but they were might productive years. Glenn Evans came to UA in 1975 from McLean, Virginia via Wesley Junior College in Dover, Delaware. Immediately, he became a starting wide receiver under Head Coach Jim Dennison. The firs season, UA compiled a surprising 7-4 record as Evans became the team’s top receiver with 32 catches for 458 yards and its top punt returner. Probably his most memorable game of 1975 and perhaps even of his bright career, and in the Temple game played at the Rubber Bowl. The Owls had taken a 23-17 lead with 53 seconds remaining in the contest. Starting from UA’s 22-yard line, quarterback Tom Kot hooked up with Evans on three passes of the eight caught in the contest—one of 16 yards, then 38 yards and with but 18 seconds to go, a 26 yarder that he caught over the middle and sprinted to the end zone for a 24-23 upset of Temple. At the season’s end, Evans would be voted the team’s Most Valuable Lineman and he earned a honorable mention on the Associated Press All-American team. The following spring he lettered as a sprinter in track. Evans proceeded to help UA compile its bet record ever in 1976, when the Zips were 10-3 and finished national runner-up to NCAA II Champion, Montana State. Again he was the team’s top receiver wit h39 receptions for 553 yards and six TD’s. This time he repeated the All-American honors and was voted UA’s Most Valuable Offensive Player. A 1978 UA graduate, Evans, 31 is married and resides in McLean, Virginia. For the past nine years he has been employed by C and P Telephone Company in Washington D.C. in various management positions.
