Point Guard
A four-year letterwinner, Diane Hollis started at point guard for head coach John Street in all 108 games of her career. Hollish was UA’s number two scorer all four seasons and end up with 1,195 points, which put her in the number three spot on the all-time career scoring list.
In her second game as a freshman, Hollish hit for a career high 22 points versus Youngstown State and she would go onto average 9.7 points per game. In addition, the 5-7 guard, out of Parma Valley Forge, was the only Zip player to start in all 27 games, was number one in assists with 3.6 a game and finished second in steals with 34. She was voted UA’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award and would go onto earning the award all four seasons. That performance earned Hollish a spot on the All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) freshman team.
In 1985-86, Hollish accorded Honorable Mention All OVC honors by averaging 11 points a game, having 18 games of double figure scoring, that include matching her career high 22 points against Morehead State and had a team leading 56 average to 11.5, again scored 22 points, this time versus Evansville, and had a career high 100 assists in 1986-87. Hollish’s playmaking and defensive prowess helped the Zips compile a 14-13 record , including a 7-7 OVC mark their best in four years of play. It was also the UA women’s first winning season as a NCAA I member and their fifth in the program’s 13-year history.
Hollish closed out her college playing days with a career high 327 points for a 12.1 average, hit for double figures in 21 or 27 games, was a second with 47 steals and topped the UA team with 93 assists. In addition, she had two more career highs of eight assists versus Oral Roberts and matched the seven steals she had against Murray State as a junior with seven versus Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Now she is involved with coaching. After earning her degree in business communications, Hollish coached the Parma Valley Forge freshman girls basketball team for two years.
