Sean Palchick was named the Assistant Director for Athletics Communications at The University of Akron in November 2014.
Palchick handles the public relations efforts and game-day management for the lacrosse, rifle, men's and women's soccer, cross country/track and field and women's basketball programs.
Palchick joined UA after nine years as the assistant communications director at Drake. During his tenure with the Bulldogs, he served as the primary contact for the men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's soccer teams.
Additionally, he served a key role in the layout of the annual 148-page Drake Relays program, while working as the assistant media coordinator for the event.
In his time at Drake, Palchick led media publicity for 121 All-Conference performers, 66 Academic All-League performers, nine conference Player of the Year recipients, six Academic All-Americans, one NCAA Elite 89 recipient and Lindsay Whorton, a 2009 Rhodes Scholar and 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American for women's basketball.
He coordinated media efforts for 2007 NCAA Tournament and 2008 WNIT women's basketball teams as well as promotion of Drake's men's tennis squad, which has won seven Missouri Valley Conference regular-season titles and made six NCAA Tournament appearances.
In 2009, he told the story of the Drake men's soccer team that captured its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference Championship title en route to advancing to the Elite Eight with wins over Western Illinois, Ohio State and Boston College.
Palchick gained valuable experience as the Drake media coordinator for three MVC Championships as well as serving as the assistant Drake media coordinator for seven Drake Relays, 2010 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships, 2008, 2011 and 2012 NCAA Track and Field Championships.
He also served as a media volunteer at 2012 NCAA Des Moines Women's Basketball Regional and the 2005 and 2011 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds, 2006 NCAA Women's Regional and 2007 NCAA Women's Final Four held in Cleveland, Ohio.
A native of Chesterland, Ohio, Palchick earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio State and a master's degree in sport administration from Tennessee.
