Overby was able to help his student-athletes garner the highest team finishes in conference and regional competition in program history. He coached one indoor conference champion, 40 Midwest All-Conference selections, 4 USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams, 55 Midwest Conference Indoor Academic All-Conference selections and 58 Midwest Conference Outdoor Academic All-Conference selections. Both programs also combined to break 61 school records and placed 101 individuals on the Knox College top 10 all-time performers list.
Â
Prior to taking the helm at Knox, Overby served as an assistant coach for track and field and cross country at Capital University. His two-year tenure at Capital was highlighted by 44 All-Conference selections, two conference champions and 15 school records.Â
Â
Overby got his start in collegiate coaching at Long Beach City College before moving on to Ohio State where he served as an assistant coach and mentee under legendary head and Olympic sprint coach Russ Rogers.
Â
With over 20 years of experience, Overby has also had success coaching individuals that have been USA National Team medalists, Olympic gold medalists, and IAAF World Championship medalists.Â
Â
As an athlete, he was an all-conference track performer in college and went on to qualify for the U.S. Indoor and Outdoor Championships, as well as the U.S. Olympic trials. He also had spurts running on Team USA sponsored relays.
Â
Overby earned his master's degree in sports administration from Columbia Southern and his bachelor's degree in social psychology from Park University.
