Stephanie Etter has been named an assistant coach for The University of Akron softball team, head coach Julie Jones announced Wednesday.
Etter joined the Akron softball staff in 2015 as a graduate assistant. In her new role as an assistant coach, Etter will assist in improving the team’s offensive production and will work with the outfielders on a day-to-day basis.
“Stephanie has been an integral part of our program over the past two years, and the work she did as a GA earned her a full-time position on our staff,” said Jones. “Stephanie is organized and resourceful and we are looking forward to seeing how her new position helps us move forward with new ideas and energy. Most importantly, she is a great role model for our kids and is very excited to help them in our mission to build Smarter Students, Stronger Athletes and Better People.”
Etter is a former softball player at Morehead State where she was a four-time letterwinner playing in 206 games at second base for the Eagles. In her career she ranks fourth in games played (206), fifth in at bats (619), second in hit by pitch (40) and fifth in sacrifices (29).
As a graduate assistant, Etter was in charge of running the in-game video program, supervising team managers, arranging team meals and practice facilities during travel and assisting with practice set-up and timing. She also assisted in coordinating the team’s community service projects and helps to manage daily practices.
A native of North Lawrence, Ohio, Etter received her bachelor's degree from Morehead State University in 2014. Following her graduate assistantship, Etter earned a master's in education with a concentration in sports science and coaching from The University of Akron.
