Nyeem-Wartman White is in his first season as assistant coach and defensive line coach for University of Akron head coach Joe Moorhead in 2023.

Wartman-White spent the last two seasons at the University of New Hampshire as defensive line coach for the Wildcats since March of 2020.

This past season, two of Wartman-White’s pupils in Josiah Silver and Dylan Ruiz garnered 2022 Associated Press FCS All-America accolades as the duo collected second- and third-team honors, respectively.

Silver ranked No. 17 in the national rankings in tackles for loss and finished as the team leader with 17.5 tackles for loss and second in sacks (8.5), as well as third in tackles (55.0) and quarterback hurries (4).

Ruiz, who was selected to the Ted Hendricks Award Watch List, which includes players from both FBS and FCS, as the top defensive lineman in the nation, ranked No. 5 in the nation in sacks per game. He was the team leader in sacks (12.0) and quarterback hurries (7), and is tied for the team lead in forced fumbles (2). Ruiz ranked second on the team in both solo tackles (35) and total tackles (60), as well as tackles for loss (14.5).

Wartman-White, a former standout linebacker at Penn State University from 2012-16, spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons as a defensive graduate assistant at Mississippi State under head coach Joe Moorhead.

During his playing days with the Nittany Lions, Wartman-White was a Butkus Award Preseason Watch List as a senior (2016), made a career- and team-high 11 tackles in the 2014 New Era Pinstripe Bowl victory against Boston College at Yankee Stadium, earned 2013 Academic All-Big Ten honors and was one of only six true freshmen to see game action in 2012.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Penn State in 2015 and a master’s degree in workforce education leadership from Mississippi State in 2019.
