Akron Names Offensive Coordinator of the Game Winner, Presented by Arby’s Steak Nuggets
August 25 | Football
AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron department of athletics named Marty Whims II as the winner of the Offensive Coordinator of the Game promotion, presented by Arby's Steak Nuggets.
Whims will assist football head coach Joe Moorhead in designing the script for Akron's opening drive against Robert Morris on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. ET inside InfoCision Stadium Summa Health Field.
An Akron grad and longtime football season ticket holders, Whims serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Stark Enterprises. He's a regular on game days with a group that includes his incredibly jealous friends Charlie and Jason. Whims is supported by his wife and three children and can't wait to talk ball with Coach Moorhead.
The contest drew interest and season-ticket members from coast-to-coast and worldwide. The original launch tweet was the most viewed post by a college football team in the summer of 2026, garnering over 25-million views. The Zips sold out InfoCision Stadium's suites for the first time ever and have generated record new season ticket memberships.
All current UA season ticket holders were automatically entered into a random drawing for the promotion with every season ticket counting as an entry — e.g. 4 tickets equal 4 entries. Season ticket holders received additional entries for every new season ticket holder they successfully referred
Athletics partnered with UA's College of Business and the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy to manage the balloting and selection process for the contest.
The School of Accountancy accessed athletics ticketing systems, conducted the ticket data analysis and did an independent selection to ensure a randomized selection for this drawing.
One winner was selected at random from eligible entrants.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The selected fan will work directly with Zips' football head coach Joe Moorhead to help design the plays that open the Robert Morris game — a first-of-its-kind experience for the Akron program.
