Baseball alumnus James Sheltrown has joined the Zips as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2020 season.

In his first season as a collegiate coach, Sheltrown brings two years of coaching experience. He previously coached summer baseball where he helped multiple student-athletes transition to playing college baseball.

An infielder and catcher for the Zips [2010-14], Sheltrown came back from major arm surgery to finish his playing career. As a senior in 2014, he led the Zips to their first MAC championship appearance since 1995. Sheltrown posted his best numbers on the field as a senior, among league leaders in on-base percentage (.448) as well as fielding percentage (.971) with 160 assists and 30 double plays.

A native of Springboro, Ohio, Sheltrown earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2013 and a master’s degree in education/sport science and coaching in 2015, both from Akron.
